On April 5 2016, West Shore RCMP Constable Sarah Beckett, while working general duty, was struck and killed when her marked police car was struck by a pickup truck at a major intersection in Langford, British Columbia.

At approximately 3:30 am on the morning of April 5 2016, Cst. Beckett, 32 years, was travelling eastbound on Goldstream Road when it was struck by a pickup truck near the intersection of Peatt Road in the suburb of Langford, just outside Victoria BC. Paramedics were on scene shortly after, and tried to revive her. However, she was pronounced deceased just after 4:00 am. The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries but later released to police custody pending an investigation.

Constable Beckett was a 11-year member of the West Shore RCMP Detachment, spending her entire career on Vancouver Island working in general duty, media relations and as an investigator with the integrated Major Crime Unit. Constable Beckett leaves behind her husband and two young children.
