Motor Vehicle Incident
Bromont Police Department
On December 1 2011, shortly before lunch, on a stretch of Highway 139 outside the small community of Bromont Quebec, approximately 100 kilometres east of Montreal, 37 year old Constable Vincent Roy of the Bromont Police Department was killed during a traffic stop.
He was walking back to his police vehicle with the license and registration papers of the driver he had stopped when he was rammed by a truck and killed. The truck left the road, driving on the shoulder, hitting the patrol car first and afterwards hitting Constable Roy. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the incident.
Constable Roy had only been with the Bromont police force for several months after serving with the RCMP in Alberta. He was returning to his family and roots by taking a local policing job when the tragedy occurred. Roy leaves behind a wife and two children, aged 8 and 10.
Our condolences go out to Constable Roy’s family, friends, and colleagues.
