Motor Vehicle Accident
Sûreté du Québec
At approximately 6:30 p.m., on November 14, 2010, Constable Sébastien Coghlan-Goyette, age 25, and student ride-a-long Sophia Rigas, age 22, were killed in a motor vehicle accident in Les Cèdres, Quebec, which is about 50 kilometres southwest of Montreal. Constable Coghlan-Goyette was responding to an emergency call on Route 340 when he tried to avoid a collision with a deer that was standing in the middle of the road. In trying to avoid the deer the PC did several rolls and ended up on a tree at the side of the road. Both Constable Sébastien Coghlan-Goyette and Sophia Rigas were taken to a hospital where they later died.
Constable Sébastien Coghlan-Goyette, originally from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu QC, had been a officer with the Sûreté du Québec for 3 1/2 years. Our condolences go out to his partner, Francis Blais, his family, friends, and colleagues.
