Steven Tourangeau

29 May 2023

Excuses - cette notice nécrologique n'a pas encore été traduite.

On Monday May 29, 2023 just before 7:00 AM, Detective Constable Steven Tourangeau, of the Ontario Provincial Police, was driving an unmarked police vehicle when he was involved in a motor vehicle incident with a school bus just northwest of Woodstock. Both drivers were killed in the incident.

Det. Const. Tourangeau, 35 years of age, worked in the OPP’s Huron-Perth Street Crime Unit before recently landing a spot in the Organized Crime Bureau, a joint forces unit made up of OPP members and officers from other police forces across the province. Its members typically wear street clothes and drive unmarked vehicles. He was working his first day with the new unit when he was tragically killed in an on-duty motor vehicle collision when his unmarked police vehicle and a school bus collided at the rural intersection of Oxford Road 33 and Highway 59, northwest of Woodstock, around 7:00 AM. The 71 year old driver of the school bus was the only occupant, and also tragically lost his life in the crash.

Det. Const. Tourangeau grew up in Tecumseh, Ontario, near Windsor and was living two hours away in St. Thomas with his wife and their three young boys. He spent some time with Windsor Police Service’s Auxiliary unit before joining the OPP.

Our condolences go out to Det. Const. Tourangeau’s wife and children, family, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered.
