On September 12 2017, 35-year-old Constable Francis (Frank) Deschenes was killed while assisting some motorists on Highway #2 near Memramcook, NB.

Constable Deschenes, a member of the RCMP Northern Corridor Traffic Services unit, pulled over in the eastbound lanes on Highway #2 to help some motorists change a flat tire. Shortly after 6:00 PM, a utility van hit the RCMP vehicle that in turn hit the civilian vehicle. Cst. Deschenes died at the scene while the two civilians and the driver of the utility van were taken to hospital with a number of undetermined injuries. The driver of the utility van was treated and released to the custody of the RCMP.

Constable Deschenes, a 12-year member of the RCMP, was posted to a number of detachments and roles including the Musical Ride before returning to Nova Scotia and joining Traffic Services. He was also a member of the RCMP Tactical Troop and was a Traffic Reconstructionist. He was a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal in 2013.

Constable Deschenes leaves behind his wife and family.
