Gunshot

Thunder Bay Police Service
On August 16, 2023, Cst. Craig Town of the Thunder Bay Police Service died from complications that came from a serious gunshot injury sustained in the line of duty in 1991.
In 1991, while on duty at the Balmoral Police Station, Cst. Town was shot twice by a suspect who had seized his firearm. He survived the shooting but was left with debilitating injuries, resulting in Craig becoming a quadriplegic. Despite the injuries, he remained an official member of the Thunder Bay Police Service. On August 16, 2023, at the age of 65, Cst. Town passed away with his death attributed to respiratory failure resulting from the injuries he sustained in 1991.
He is remembered for his resilience and dedication. He served as an inspiration to his fellow officers. He was a devoted family man and an active community member. His wife stated that he believed policing was the best career and that he identified with justice and compassion.
He leaves behind a wife of 36 years and their two children. Our condolences go out to his wife and children, family, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered.
