The Memorial Ribbon Society has received some tough news about our Chaplain, Jim Turner. In late September, Jim was diagnosed with bladder cancer; a few weeks ago, after several tests and a few of short hospital stays for falls / infections, it was discovered that Jim’s cancer has spread to his bones and lungs and is now at Stage 4.
Jim’s case is quite complicated and his medical team is not sure how much time he may have. He was supposed to start radiation treatment on December 2, but things didn’t happen as planned and he is now supposed to go in December 5 for his first radiation treatment.
Jim is at Langley Memorial Hospital getting the treatments to help fight his cancer. His daughter has been providing updates on Jim’s status on Facebook, but if you wish to leave some encouraging words or memories please send them to sendthemccarthys@gmail.com.
Jim is not taking visitors for now as he deals with the treatment side effects. Jim’s daughter Anita McCarthy and family live in Papua New Guinea and a ‘Go Fund Me’ page has been started to try and get them home, at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-bring-anita-and-her-family-home.
Please pray for some rest and strength for Jim as he goes through this fight.
