On March 31, 2026, at approximately 10:30 AM, Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Anaïs Fortin-Cozzens was killed in Portneuf-sur-Mer, about 300 kilometres northeast of Quebec City in the province’s Côte-Nord region.
On Tuesday March 31, 2026, 37-year-old Sergeant Investigator Anais Fortin-Cozzens, of the Sûreté du Québec Major Crimes Investigation Division in Gatineau was travelling on Route 138 in Portneuf-sur-Mer, about 300 KM North of Quebec City in the province’s Côte-Nord region when she was involved in a three-vehicle collision. Four people were injured, two of them seriously. One of the injured was Sgt. Fortin-Cozzens, who was on her way to police headquarters during an investigation, was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Sgt. Anais Fortin-Cozzens began her career with the Sûreté du Québec in 2010, in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality. After a stint with the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit, Anaïs Fortin-Cozzens returned to the region in 2021, to the Major Crimes Investigation Division in Gatineau. Family was her greatest achievement, her greatest passion. She was described as a discreet, reserved person, but also funny and genuine. She loved to play, was very cheerful, and was also very calm and composed. She was very, very loving and genuine. She was a family person, an exceptional partner, and an exceptional mother. She was so caring and devoted to her children.
Sergeant Anais Fortin-Cozzens was married and had children. Our condolences go out to her partner and children, family, friends and colleagues. She will be remembered.
